The Salesians of Don Bosco ( SDB), also known as Don Bosco Society, Don Bosco Educational Society etc., was founded in 1859 by St. John Bosco, an Italian Catholic priest and educator, who based his teaching methods on love rather than punishment. The Don Bosco Society is a world wide organization, having over 35,000 members.

It mainly caters to the needs of the less privileged and marginalized sections of the society, particularly in the field of education, through its huge network of schools, colleges, universities and social & cultural development centres. ' Don Bosco Society enjoys consultancy status at the United Nations, in view of its reach and expertise in the field of education, catering to over ten million young people through out the world.
